Nokia 8800 Sirocco

The new Nokia 8800 reincarnation - the Sirocco Edition, comes as an updated version of the highly successful fashionable model of the Finnish manufacturer.

We usually refrain from publishing rumors about would-be mobiles that are not officially announced by the manufacturer. In the case with the new jewel in the Nokia crown though, the 8800 Sirocco Edition model, we decided to publish the available info since Nokia have already sent pricing and release date info to their partners and some of them posted it on their "coming soon" pages.

The reborn Nokia 8800 SE would have a 2 megapixel camera. It will probably keep the tri-band GSM support, 64MB of internal memory and a 262K color display with a resolution of 208x208 pixels of the original Nokia 8800. Following the current trends, the phone would also feature a well-developed music player and enhanced Bluetooth capabilities, although even the regular Nokia 8800 supported the A2DP profile allowing listening to music on a stereo Bluetooth headset. It is not yet known whether the new edition will have memory card slot.

Beside technological upgrades, the handset has received a decent face-lifting in black and stainless steel outfit. The regular Nokia 8800 had infamous navigation keys that provided for a lot of mistakes when pressing the keys. Our hope now is that with the new design of the keypad, the navigation would get much more user-friendly.

A serious flaw that may have put off a lot of the potential customers of the regular Nokia 8800 was the short battery life. Most of the users had to recharge their batteries every day or so. Nokia has put an effort in fixing that problem too and now the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition would be equipped with new larger capacity battery instead of the 600 mAh the old one had.

The Nokia 8800 Sirocco Edition would be available in September 2006 and the expected price is 675 EUR in bulk without taxes. More info will be available with the official announcement, which should come anytime now.
